Issue/Introduction

How to migrate existing NSX-T Edges to a new cluster in a VCF Environment.

Migration of NSX-T Edge clusters in a VCF environment isn’t currently supported. The workaround is to perform a stretch of one cluster and a shrink of the other cluster which is described below.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 4.x

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

Resolution

  1. Login to the SDDC Manager UI.

  2. Select the Edge Cluster that you are going to relocate.

  3. Select the Expand Edge Cluster option.

Expand the cluster using Add Edge Nodes to an NSX Edge Cluster

  4. Select the destination cluster in the Expand Edge Cluster wizard.

  5. Finish deploying the new Edges to the desired destination cluster.

  6. Remove the old Edges by running the "Shrink Edge Cluster" option in the SDDC UI

Shrink the cluster using Remove Edge Nodes from an NSX Edge Cluster
