Cannot remove the expired ESXi host license from the SDDC Manager UI

Issue/Introduction

In the SDDC Manager UI > License tab, the option to "Remove" the license is greyed out.

The license has already expired.

Another active license is already assigned to the ESXi host.

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager 4.x

VMware SDDC Manager 5.x

Cause

"Remove" option is greyed out for the ESXi host license as it is reported to be in use for a few CPUs in the SDDC Manager UI.

Resolution

Removed the expired license from the SDDC manager using API calls

1. Take a snapshot of the SDDC Manager VM
2. Login to SDDC Manager UI
3. Browser to Developer Center > API Explorer
4. Get the license keys

   Get /v1/license-keys

5. Identify the expired license key and validate

   GET /v1/license-keys/{key}

6. Delete the license key

   DELETE /v1/license-keys/{key}

7. Reload SDDC Manager UI
