Issue/Introduction
Customer might have folders have duplicate names.
There could be monitoring systems, that could pick up these folder names as duplicate and alert the Customer
Environment
vSphere 7
vSphere 8
Cause
vSphere by default does not allow users to create duplicate folder names. vSphere by default does not allow duplicate names on other object types as well.
However it can so happen that we might observe some folders have duplicate names.
This is only achievable, if these folders with are subfolders on a who's root folder object names are unique.
For example: Lets take there are two folders named Site_1 and Site_2. These folder can have subfolders of the same name.
Datacenter
| |
|Site_1
| |Hosts_list
|
||Site_2
| |Hosts_list
As we can see the subfolders on the root folders have the same/duplicate folder names as Hosts_list.
Resolution
This is an expected and allowed as the folders with duplicate names are present on the root folders with unique names and they hence the hierarchy path of a folder will not be duplicate for the endpoint object.
