Issue/Introduction

In VMware Aria Operations, the "Root account expiration date" property is not visible under the vCenter object despite being enabled under the policy settings. This issue has been observed during compliance checks and monitoring configurations.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

The "Root account expiration date" property is not displayed when the root password expiration is disabled on the vCenter side. Specifically, if the vCenter root password is set to "never expire," Aria Operations does not retrieve or display this property under the vCenter object.

Resolution

Verify Root Password Expiration Setting:

Log in to the vCenter Server using SSH or the vSphere Client.

Run the following command to check the root account expiration setting:

chage -l root

If the password is set to "never expire," the "Root account expiration date" property will not be available in Aria Operations.

Modify Root Password Expiration:

If necessary, configure a password expiration policy:

chage -M <days> root

Replace <days> with the desired number of days before expiration.

Restart the vCenter adapter collection in Aria Operations to fetch the updated property.

Ensure Proper Role Permissions:

The vCenter adapter account must have administrative privileges to collect compliance-related properties.

Verify and update the assigned role in vCenter if necessary.
