Unable to create vSAN Data first Protection Group if Host in Maintenance mode

Issue/Introduction

Unable to create vSAN Data Protection Group for the first time if any host in maintenance mode within the vSAN host cluster. 

 

Environment

vSphere ESXi 8.0U3

vSphere vCenter 8.0.3

 

Cause

This is a known limitation for the first time to create Protection Group if any host is in maintenance mode. 

Here the orchestration system for the DR workflow needs to ensure that the DPD daemon is enabled(running) on all the working hosts in the cluster. 

Resolution

Workaround:

• Exit all hosts from maintenance mode to allow the first Protection Group creation to complete then any subsequent Protection Group will be allowed to be created. 

or 

• Temporary remove host in maintenance mode out of vSAN host cluster to allow first Protection Group task to complete.
