"NSR VMware proxy is not available for datastores" while taking backups with Dell NetWorker

Issue/Introduction

• Backups with Dell NetWorker fail with the below error:

NSR VMware proxy is not available for datastores (Datastore_Name) in vCenter 'xxx.com.'. Check if it is enabled.

• The issue is intermittent and may not be true for the backups of all VMs
  
  
• Contrary to the error message by Dell NetWorker, the Backup Proxies are available and can be communicated with

 

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

Dell NetWorker

Cause

• The issue occurs when Dell NetWorker Management is not able to resolve the FQDN of the VM.

• The Dell NetWorker logs would report the below:

XXX.com nsrdisp_vproxy NSR info libCURL: function "curl_easy_perform" returned error 6: "Could not resolve host: YYY.com"
XXX.com nsrd NSR info VM proxy Warning event: vProxy 'YYY.com' is unavailable.

• In the above error message, XXX.com is the FQDN of the Dell NetWorker Management and YYY.com is the FQDN of the VM

Resolution

The resolution of the issue is outside the scope of VMware by Broadcom and the issue needs to be investigated by the network teams/DNS teams.
