Issue/Introduction

In vSAN Skyline Health seeing health check warning for "vSAN cluster configuration consistency"

When checking details for the health check, it shows the hosts or disks that have the reported issue of "Deduplication and Compression is disabled, but should be enabled"

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.0

VMware vSAN 8.0

Cause

This message will occur when there is a difference in the setting for deduplication and compression being enabled at the cluster level but the hosts or disks have the setting as disabled.

Resolution

  • The health check table under the hosts showing the configuration mismatch will have some remediation recommendations
  • Alternatively, user may click the "Remediate inconsistent configuration" button to run the cluster configuration remediation action to fix hosts and disks which have inconsistent configurations.

**Caution should be taken when remediating this inconsistency as there is the potential to initiate a large amount of data resync which can have a negative impact on the performance of the cluster.**

To avoid any potential performance impacts to the cluster from the automatic remediation that happens when clicking on the "Remediate inconsistent configuration" button this can be performed after business hours or during a maintenance window as a precaution.
