Issue/Introduction

  • Using Nutanix to upgrade NSX prepared ESXi host transport nodes from ESXi 7.0 to 8.0, the NSX UI shows the hosts "Failed to Install Error"

  • The VIBs on the host showed as invalid as the incorrect kernel module had been used with the Nutanix updater.

  • NSX "Failed to Install Error" with:
Node has invalid version 4.2.1.0.0-8.0.24302041 of software nsx-monitoring.
Node has invalid version 4.2.1.0.0-8.0.24302041 of software nsx-vdpi.
Node has invalid version 4.2.1.0.0-8.0.24302041 of software nsx-shared-libs.
Node has invalid version 4.2.1.0.0-8.0.24302041 of software nsx-proxy
    ...

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

The Nutanix updater contains the incorrect NSX kernel module, it is very important that the VIB bundle used matches the NSX version. If the VIB bundle does not match the NSX Version in the ESXi, the upgrade of NSX will fail.

Resolution

The Nutanix update tool must have the appropriate NSX version "NSX Kernel Module for VMware ESXi 8.0"
