VMware Cloud Director changes the storage policy in the UI even if the vCenter task to change the policy fails

Issue/Introduction

When updating the storage policy for a VM in the Cloud Director UI and the backend vCenter storage migration task fails, the storage policy change is not reverted. 

Customer can find WARN messages "Unable to roll back storage policy updates for VM with VAppVmId: ..." resulting in java.lang.NullPointerException in vcloud-container-debug.log.

The storage policy is incorrect in Cloud Director UI when compared to physical storage location in vCenter.

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The workflow to rollback the failed storage policy update contains a defect that will be fixed in future versions of VMware Cloud Director. 

Resolution

This defect will be fixed in a future version of VMware Cloud Director.

Workarounds require database edits. If they are required, please contact VMware Cloud Director Support and note this Article ID (391413) in the problem description.
