certificate-manager failed with error: Reached max number of attempts, terminating operation

Issue/Introduction

Use certificate-manager  to renew vCenter certificate, it returns error:

 

Incorrect Password! Try Again! (2 attempt/s left)
Password:

Incorrect Password! Try Again! (1 attempt/s left)
Password:

Reached max number of attempts, terminating operation.

 

And cannot login to vCenter with this SSO account afterwards,

it always return error:  "Incorrect Password"

 

Environment

vCenter 7.0.x

vCenter 8.0.x

 

Cause

SSO account is locked due to too many failed attempts.

Need to reset  SSO account.

Resolution

Use vdcadmintool to reset this SSO account.
