Issue/Introduction

Question:

How does CA Dynam/T for z/VSE and the EMC MDL (Mainframe Data Library) communication work ?

Answer:

CA DYNAM/T for z/VSE itself does not have an official Interface to the EMC MDL (Mainframe Data Library).

The EMC MDL (Mainframe Data Library) Robot is mounting a Virtual Volser in seconds.

The EMC MDL (Mainframe Data Library) Software behind is waiting for the upcoming CA Dynam/T mount scratch message on the System Console with prefix "D",

(CADT008D which normally requires Operator intervention) then it will do further Work to mount the requested scratch tape with the appropriate Operator Command.

Additional Information:

The EMC Mainframe Data Library (MDL) is a family of Virtual Tape Library controllers which can be connected IBM mainframes via ESCON or FICON.
