Post firmware upgrade on physical server the disks are not visible on ESXi host end.
Or post replacing the local storage controller on physical server the disks are not visible on the ESXi host end.
The local storage controller is visible on the ESXi host but none of the local storage devices are visible.
There are no errors on the hardware management console (CIMC, iDRAC, iLO, xClarity and so on) for the disks.
On verifying the disk status from hardware management console they appear to be in an unconfigured state, below is an example from Cisco's CIMC:
VMware vSphere ESXi (All versions)
VMware vSAN (All versions)
On changing the local storage controller at the hardware end the disks attached to it would be in the unconfigured state.
This means that the disk is physically present and healthy but not yet configured for use.
The disks can also go into the unconfigured state post firmware upgrades as the disk configuration may have reset.
Configure the disks for use by changing them from the "unconfigured" state to either a JBOD or a Virtual Volume as needed, from the hardware management console.
For vSAN disks JBOD (Passthrough mode) is the recommended and preferred configuration mode, but RAID-0 with a single disk per volume is also supported. For more information refer SAS or SATA Controller Personality and Disk Config Mode.
If any assistance is required on this, kindly contact the hardware vendor of the physical server.
