Issue/Introduction

Multiple "NSX Management Service has failed" alerts are triggered in Aria Operations. The following is a list of the impacted object components:

  • ssh
  • snmp
  • liagent
  • nsx-message-bus
  • migration-coordinator

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The alert is configured by design to retrieve the state of the NSX Management Services.  Some of the services are not started by default on the NSX environment, hence the alerts are being observed in Aria Operations.

Resolution

Perform the following steps to create a custom Policy to deactivate the alert for the specific NSX Management Service objects.

  • Login to Aria Operations UI.

  • Go to Operations > Configurations > Policy Definition

  • Click "Add" to add a new child Policy.  Enter Name "Disable Alert for Management Service"

    • Click on "Alerts and Symptoms"

    • Select Object Type "NSX Manager Service"

    • Set the following to "Deactivated" State
      • "Management service monitor runtime state has failed"
      • "NSX Management service has failed"

    • Click "Save"

    • Select "Groups and Objects", then click on "Objects" tab.

    • Select Object Type - "NSX Manager Service"

    • Click on the following Object Names:
      • Snmp
      • Nsx-message-bus
      • Migration-coordinator
      • Liagent

    • Click "Save"

The NSX Management Service alert for the selected services will no longer be triggering.

To prevent the alert from triggering in Aria Operations you will need to exclude the services from monitoring on the adapter instance refer to the article Aria Operations alerts about nsx-message-bus service being stopped and unable to start
