Issue/Introduction

Devices are currently modeled in CA Spectrum using SNMPv1/v2 Community Strings. This document explains how to update these models to use SNMPv3 Community Strings.

Environment

Release: All

Resolution

There is no need to destroy the existing models and remodel with the SNMPv3 community name. You only need to update the Spectrum Community Name field in the OneClick Spectrum Modeling Information folder in the Information tab of the Component Detail panel for the device model. The format of the SNMPv3 community name entered in the Community Name field will depend on how you have SNMPv3 configured on the device.

Basically, there are three ways to configure SNMPv3 on the device;

  • No Authentication
  • Authentication Password with no Privilege Password
  • Authentication Password with Privilege Password

The following are examples of all three:

No Authentication where "level1" is the user. The format of the SNMPv3 community name entered in the Community Name field would be "#v3/N/level1".

Authentication Password with no Privilege Password where "level2" is the user and "authpassword" is the Authentication Password. The format of the SNMPv3 community name entered in the Community Name field would be "#v3/A:authpassword/level2".

Authentication Password with Privilege Password where "level3" is the user, "authpassword" is the Authentication Password and "privpassword" is the Privilege Password. The format of the SNMPv3 community name entered in the Community Name field would be "#v3/P:authpassword:privpassword/level3".
