Error: "Catalog Item not found" when attempting to delete a vApp template in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

• Deleting the vApp template fails with the error below:
  
  [ ########-####-####-########f083 ] Catalog Item not found: urn:uuid:########-####-####-########3449
  
  
• The vApp template status is "Unresolved"
• In /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/vcloud-container-debug.log the below entry can be seen:
  
  com.vmware.cl.exception.LibraryItemNotFoundException: Catalog Item not found: urn:uuid:xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
at com.vmware.cl.impl.LibraryItemServiceImpl.findByContent(LibraryItemServiceImpl.java:411)
at com.vmware.cl.impl.LibraryItemServiceImpl.findByContent(LibraryItemServiceImpl.java:402)

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6

Cause

Catalog item wasn't created completely and there is a missing entry in the DB in the catalog_item table, or the vApp Template was already deleted in vCenter.
