Issue/Introduction

When performing an ESXi patch or update precheck using Lifecycle Manager or an image-based cluster, the process fails with the following error:

"Failed to run health checks for NSX-T on 'Clustername or ESXi hostname'."

This issue occurs when hosts are prepared for NSX-T, and the connectivity between vCenter and NSX-T is down.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

VMware NSX-T

Cause

If the hosts are prepared for NSX-T, vCenter must be connected to NSX Manager to complete the prechecks. If the connection is down, the precheck  process fails.

Resolution

Check the Compute Manager connectivity status in NSX-T. If the vCenter connection appears as "Down," follow these steps to restore it:

To restore Compute Manager connection:

  1. Login to NSX manager, Navigate to System Fabric > Compute Manager
  2. Select Compute Manager and Edit
  3. Enter correct thumbprint in "SHA-256 thumbprint" and Save
  4. wait for 2min and check the connectivity status.

Once the Compute Manager connection is restored, retry the ESXi patch remediation.
