Modifying VM storage policy on vSAN cluster

Issue/Introduction

This article explains the process for changing the storage policy for a VM residing on a vSAN cluster.

Environment

VMware ESXi 7.0

VMware ESXi 8.0

Cause

Changing the storage policy for a single VM instead of changing the policy for the entire vSAN cluster.

Resolution

• Right click on the VM that needs to have the storage policy changed
• Select VM Policies
• Select Edit VM Storage Policies

• In the new window, select the desired storage policy to change the VM policy to.

• After policy is selected, click OK.
• vSAN resync will start after changing policy to bring VM into compliance with newly selected storage policy.
