Issue/Introduction

Customers who enable the following setting see all their Diagnostics findings remediated when their environment reaches the defined time.

Setting: External Event Based Active Symptoms

Default Value: deactivated

Description: The number of days to retain the external event-based active symptoms.

Environment

Aria Operations

Cause

This option is an automated cleanup setting for active events. This setting is for advanced users and admins and this option is disabled by default. This option should only be used to clear hanging events and disabled after use.

Resolution

Diagnostics for VCF is a native management pack in Operations and the findings in Diagnostics are held as active events in Operations. When “External Event Based Active Symptoms” is enabled and the environment reaches the defined time all Findings will be marked as remediated. This presents a risk for customers because it will put findings in a false negative state.

The only way to reset the findings in Operations once they are marked as remediated is to restart your Operations instances or to ssh to your instances and run “systemctl restart collector”. For multi-node environments you must bring down your cluster and restart all collector instances. After restarting instances or services the environment will check against the findings engine and relevant findings will be displayed.
