Issue/Introduction
When uninstalling the sensor with C:\Windows\CarbonBlack\uninst.exe, an nsislog message pops up that stops silent installs from completing.
The file '' couldn't be open to write the data
Environment
Carbon Black EDR Sensor: All supported versions
Microsoft Windows: All supported versions
Cause
Sensors installed via MSI and upgraded through .exe may have residual registration entries for the MSI.
Resolution
Open cmd.exe as an administrator.
Run this command to clean up the registry value causing the popup.
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CarbonBlack /v "MSIProductCode" /f
Continue to uninstall the sensor.
Additional Information
The same query can be used in an uninstall script for GPO or SCCM prior to calling on the uninst.exe.
For non-silent manual uninstall directly on the machine, clicking OK will bring up the uninstaller box and selecting "yes" will continue the uninstall as expected.
