Issue/Introduction

Unable to view the vCLS VMs in the vCenter Server because the user logged into the vSphere Client was not part of the Administrator group.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

vCLS (vSphere Cluster Services) VMs are background virtual machines that operate behind the scenes on a VMware cluster. They are not directly accessible via the standard vCenter interface and do not have console access for users. The vCLS VMs are only visible to users who are part of the Administrator group. If a user is not a member of this group, they won’t be able to see the vCLS VMs, even though the VMs are running correctly in the background.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, ensure that the user is added to the Administrator group.

Follow the steps below to add the required user to the Administrator group:

  • Log in to the vSphere Client and navigate to Menu.

  • Select Administration under the Menu options.

  • In the Single Sign-On section, click on Users and Groups.

  • Select the Administrator group and click Edit.

  • Add the user who needs to manage and monitor the vCLS VMs.
