Issue/Introduction

Is there a way to delay an alarm from appearing in the Spectrum OneClick Alarms tab after it has been generated?

I've received several requests to input a time delay based on certain criteria on incoming alarms into Spectrum. What would be the best way to approach getting this done?

Environment

DX NetOps Spectrum Release 20.2 or later

Resolution

Unfortunately, there is no way to delay an alarm from appearing in the Spectrum OneClick alarms tab after the alarm has been generated. Some alternatives are:

  1. Customize the event associated with the alarm. Remove the alarm configuration on the event and add an Event Pair rule looking for the event that clears the alarm. If not found within a specified time, generate a new event that then generates the alarm. Reference the "Event Configuration User Guide" for more information.

  2. Use the Spectrum Alarm Notification Manager (SANM) to age the alarm before sending the alarm to the AlarmNotifier for e-mail notification. Reference the "Alarm Notification Manager User Guide" for more information.

  3. Use the Snooze functionality in the Spectrum OneClick Alarms tab to snooze the alarm for a specified time after the alarm first appears in the Alarms tab. Reference the "Operator Guide" for more information.

Additional Information

NOTE: When using method #1 for an event pair rule, If there are already existing event conditions configured for the originating trap event to generate the alarm which you want to delay, it is then recommended to copy the original alarm event into a new event, disable the alarm on the original alarm event, and configure alarm on the new event. Have the event pair configured on the original alarm event (which is now set to no alarm) and set the clear to clear the new alarm event after (x) time as per configured in the event pair.
