Issue/Introduction
Users attempting to upgrade NSX may encounter an issue where the upgrade fails due to a prior failure during a previous upgrade on specific hosts in the NSX prepared cluster.
The host upgrade may have failed with error "Failed to execute ESXi maintenance-mode upgrade dataplane check. Error occurred while copying the upgrade scripts to host <UUID>. SFHC connectivity may be down.", or the post-check status may show errors
Environment
VMware NSX
Cause
The failure occurred during a previous upgrade on certain hosts, preventing them from being correctly prepared for the current NSX upgrade process.
Resolution
To workaround this issue perform the following steps:
Remove the affected host from the NSX prepared cluster.
Run the pre-check process to ensure the host is no longer part of the upgrade group.
Reintroduce the host back into the NSX prepared cluster to verify if the upgrade status updates as successful.
After this, confirm the installation status on the host, ensuring it shows as successfully completed with the upgrade status at 100%.
Apply the same steps to the other affected hosts, which should resolve the issue and allow the upgrade to proceed successfully.
