Adding extent to VMFS datastore fails: "Storage IO resource management is not supported for multi-extent"

Issue/Introduction

Extending an existing VMFS datastore by adding an additional extent to it, fails with the error:

Error : "Failure reason : Failed to extend VMFS datastore - Storage IO resource management is not supported for multi-extent  VMFS datastore"

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.X
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.X

Cause

Storage I/O Control (SIOC) is enabled on the datastore. SIOC is not supported with multi-extent datastores 

Resolution

If an extent needs to be added to this datastore, then SIOC will need to be disabled completely and remain disabled.
