Issue/Introduction

In Operator Console (OC), Metric Viewer, when we select a graph for Time Range "1 month" and Aggregation interval "1 hour" we see don't see the data we are expecting to see, we believe some data is missing. When we switch to Aggregation interval "Raw" all data is always shown.

Explanation is needed on how the graphs behave in OC in DX UIM 23.4 in Metric Viewer when selecting different Aggregation Intervals.

Environment

DX UIM 23.4.*

Cause

User Error / Working As designed

Resolution

The OC user setting up Metric Viewer graphs might be confused by the fact that, when we select the aggregation as Raw the graph displays the data from the first available data collection point in the selected interval on the X-Axis.

Instead, when we select any different aggregation interval, only data that is present for the given source will be shown in the graphs.

Below is a practical example:

  • Below is a graph for 1 Week time range for a server for Total Aggregate CPU Usage (in pct).

In the DB for this server we only have data for the last day.

Graph is showing the beginning of the time range (1 week ago) and only the data we have (few hours from today)

  • If we switch this graph to even a larger time range (3 montsh) and switch Aggregation Interval to "Raw" we will see that the full graph is filled with data.
However, the time displayed in the graph correspond to the the time where there is actual data, with no empty spaces:
