Issue/Introduction

After updating the host, the following Qlogic drivers (VIBs) are getting uninstalled:

qedentv
qedf
qedi
qerntv

Cause

The esxupdate.log on the host shows the following log entry:
2025-03-07T14:38:27Z Db(15) esxupdate[2100974]: VIBs {'QLC_bootbank_qedf_2.74.1.0-1OEM.800.1.0.20613240', 'QLC_bootbank_qfle3f_2.1.33.0-1OEM.700.1.0.15843807', 'QLC_bootbank_qfle3_1.4.46.0-1OEM.700.1.0.15843807', 'QLC_bootbank_qcnic_2.0.
66.0-1OEM.700.1.0.15843807', 'QLC_bootbank_qedrntv_3.71.62.0-1OEM.800.1.0.20613240', 'QLC_bootbank_qfle3i_2.1.14.0-1OEM.700.1.0.15843807', 'QLC_bootbank_qedentv_3.71.63.0-1OEM.800.1.0.20613240', 'QLC_bootbank_qedi_2.74.1.0-1OEM.800.1.0.2
0613240'} are replaced by VIB LVO_bootbank_LVO-upgradeclean_2.0.0.7-1OEM.800, removing them from ImageProfile (Updated) DEL-ESXi_803.24280767-A02

The log shows that the LVO-upgradeclean VIB (from Lenovo) is replacing the Qlogic drivers, causing them to be uninstalled.

Resolution

  • Reinstall the missing VIBs:

    • Reinstall the Qlogic drivers (qedentv, qedf, qedi, qerntv) using the appropriate VIB files for your system.
  • Rollback the host:

Additional Information

  • The presence of the LVO-upgradeclean VIB is likely causing the drivers to be removed. This VIB is part of Lenovo’s update process and is designed to clean up previous configurations.
  • Check the Baseline: Ensure you only select the appropriate vendor drivers when applying updates. If your server is not from Lenovo, do not select Lenovo in the Vendor list.
