Newly added vSAN capacity disks are not visible on the vSAN node

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Unable to find new devices while checking form Storage device option on vCenter.

Validation:

• Hardware interface reports the newly added disks as "Foreign configuration".

Below example screenshot is for Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) -

 

 

Environment

VMware vSphere vSAN 7.X
VMware vSphere vSAN 8.X

Cause

Disk issue needs to be resolved from the hardware interface.

Resolution

This issue is outside the scope of action for VMware and needs to be investigated by the hardware vendor. However you can follow the below steps -

• Reseat the disks on the host.
• Then rescan storage on the host.
• Even then if the disk is not visible, try rebooting the host.
