VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • On vCenter appliance /storage/seat partition is reaching its capacity limit.
  • vCenter for storage utilization, we observed that the /storage/seat partition is over 75% usage indicating approaching critical levels.

Environment

VMware Vcenter 7.X
VMware Vcenter 8.X

Cause

In the vCenter Appliance Management Interface (VAMI), we verified that Hard Disk 8 is allocated to the SEAT partition.

The /storage/seat partition is responsible for storing historical events, alarms, and tasks within vCenter. Over time, as the vCenter database continues to log data, storage consumption gradually increases.

If this partition reaches full capacity, it can lead to performance degradation or even potential service disruptions within vCenter.

Resolution

Solution is to identify what is filling up the DB. Ref: vCenter Server services fail to start due to high /storage/seat full

As a workaround, disk space for the Seat partition can be increased by referring Increasing the disk space for the vCenter Server Appliance in vSphere 6.5, 6.7, 7.0 and 8.0
