Issue/Introduction

  • This document explains the mandatory details to be uploaded to the service request while opening case for NSX network outage RCA.

Environment

VMware NSX
VMware NSX-T Data Center

Resolution

In case you had a network outage whether it is a slowness, packet drops or complete network down and you are opening SR for RCA after resolving the issue, please ensure to collect all required information as per the following to help support team to perform a detailed analysis.

  1. Exact timestamp of connection failure with source and destination IP along with TCP/UDP service port
  2. Support bundle of manager, edge nodes, and affected ESXI hosts (Collect these before placing node into maintenance mode or reboot)
  3. NSX trace flow output screenshot with source and destination. Refer: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/nsx/vmware-nsx/4-1/administration-guide/network-monitoring/advanced-monitoring-tools/traceflow/trace-the-path-of-a-packet-with-traceflow.html
  4. Packet capture output from edge uplinks, host vmnic and host VM switchport (destination VM). Refer the below article for packet capture commands.
    https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/345925/troubleshooting-vmware-nsxt-using-packet.html

**Please note that RCA for NSX data path outage requires packet capture analysis, especially for the issues such as intermittent disconnection, slowness etc. **

**Failure to collect above logs/outputs would not help Broadcom technical support in doing effective analysis and the RCA may be inconclusive. **
