Issue/Introduction

sph-initrd is full always in the Ramdisk of the ESXi Host.

Cause

Below files are available in the path, which are needed for the WCP Service.

ls /var/lib/vmware/crx/spherelet/initrd/
19.4M imgfetcher-initrd
46.8M logfetcher-initrd
89.8M spherelet-initrd

Resolution

The processes that are mentioned in the /var/lib/vmware/crx/spherelet/initrd/ are related to vSpherelet Kernel Processes that are expected and required to run on WCP enabled clusters. And will not grow more. Hence, this can be ignored.

Alerts are noticed in Third party monitoring tool "opsramp" and this can be safely ignored.

Additional Information

  • Normal upgrade via vCenter or Host does not alarm this error.
  • This alarm is observed in the Nutanix Console.
