Carbon Black App Control

Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading to a Rapid Config that contained new Paths or Values they were not added to the Rapid Config.
  • Example: Rules Installer 1.28 included new parameters for the Visual Studio Rapid Config.

Environment

  • App Control Rules Installer: All Supported Versions

Cause

The core defaults to the Rapid Config are always updated, but if the Rapid Config has already been Enabled the existing values are not modified.

This is by design to prevent modification to Rapid Configs that have already been customized by the customer.

Resolution

In this situation either of the following options will resolve the issue:

  • Adjust the Rapid Config to be per-Policy and test the new settings with a different Policy.
    • Adding settings for additional Policies will use the updated core defaults of the Rapid Config.
  • Delete the existing settings as-is and re-add
    1. Log in to the Console and navigate to Rules > Software Rules > relevant Rapid Config
    2. Click Delete settings for these policies...
    3. Click Add settings for additional policies
    4. Adjust and Save accordingly.
