When powering on a virtual machine (VM) with a 32-bit Windows 8 or Windows 8.1U3 guest OS on an ESXi 8.0 or later host with Sapphire Rapids hardware, the system encounters Error Code: 0x0000000A.

Cause

This issue occurs because the 32-bit versions of Windows 8/8.1U3 attempt to enable the AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions) instruction set, which is only supported in 64-bit mode.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, create a virtual machine with hardware version 19 or lower.
