VCF Stretch Cluster Workflow fails in Apply Storage Policy stage

Issue/Introduction

• Stretch cluster workflow fails during in Apply Storage Policy stage on VCF Operations 9.x.
• Under Stretch cluster sub-task, below error message is found:
  

  Failed
Message: Failed to update and re-apply vSAN storage policy VsanDefaultProfile.

  Remediation Message:
Reference Token: ######
Cause: Exception [Task: (MOR:task-####) (Name:reconfigure) Entity: (MOR:vm-##) (Name:vcf-services-platform-template-9.x) is failed] while waiting for reconfiguring task to end task id : task-#### Task: (MOR:task-####) (Name:reconfigure) Entity: (MOR:vm-##) (Name:vcf-services-platform-template-9.x) is failed The operation is not supported on the object.

• Under SDDC Manager's /var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.log, below error snips are found:
  
  VSAN_DEFAULT_STORAGE_POLICY_UPDATION_FAILED Failed to update and re-apply vSAN storage policy VsanDefaultProfile.
  
  
• Under vCenter,s /var/log/vmware/vxpd/vpxd.log, below error snips are found:
  
  error vpxd[#####] [Originator@#### sub=vmmoVm opID=#######-####-####-####-############-######-###-##] Template reconfigure only allows name and annotation change.

Environment

• VCF 9.x
• vSAN 9.x

Cause

The stretch cluster operation will fail during the storage policy application if there are any VM templates registered in the target cluster.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow below steps:

1. Right click on the VM Template.
2. Convert it into a Virtual Machine. For more details, refer Convert a Template to a Virtual Machine
3. Under VCF Operations Web Console, Navigate to the Failed task and click on Restart Task.
