Issue/Introduction

  • When trying to register the Unity VASA provider on vCenter, the following error appears:  "A problem was encountered while registering the provider.”
  • The following error is observed on the vCenter /var/log/vmware/vmware-sps/sps.log
    com.vmware.vim.vasa.InvalidCertificate: com.vmware.vim.vasa._3_0.InvalidCertificate: InvalidCertificate

Environment

vCenter 7.0
vCenter 8.0

Cause

If vCenter has a very large number of unused root certificates in vecs, the Unity array fails to register because it is unable to store the certificates.

Resolution

Manually clean up any old, expired, or unused root and intermediate certificates stored in VECS -

Refer to the - Verify and remove CA Certificates from the TRUSTED_ROOTS store in the VMware Endpoint Certificate Store(VECS)
