Issue/Introduction

VPXA service not running on the host. 

 

Symptoms: 

Host name mis-match on the ESXI host and SDDC Manager DB.

Name of the host to be either in lower case or Uppercase. 

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0

Cause

Hostname is case sensitive which needs to be matched as per the host name entry in the SDDC Manager Database. Mismatch of the hostname on ESXi host and the SDDC Manager Database. 

Resolution

++Connect to the ESXi host and run the below command: 

#esxcli system hostname get

esxcli system hostname get

Sample output: 
[root@esxi01:~] esxcli system hostname get
   Domain Name: gslabs.local
   Fully Qualified Domain Name: esxi01.labs.local
   Host Name: esxi01

 

++Login to the SDDC Manager with root credentials 

++Connect to the Database and select the host from the DB table and match the hostname . 

++On ESXI and SDDC Manager DB the host name needs to be either in lower case or upper case.

++If there is a mis-match match the hostname as per the SDDC Manager on the ESXi host by running the below command on ESXI host: 

[root@esxi01:~] esxcli system hostname set --host=<hosname as be SDDC Manager DB>
