VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Aria Operations for Networks reports an over-threshold alert when it detects that the temperature of the Cisco Nexus switch at the data source has exceeded 40 degrees C.

  • Title: Threshold Exceeded Data Source Temperature
  • Message:  Threshold for metric Max Sensor Temperature for <hostname> measures=<current_temperature>, exceeds threshold=40.000000
  • Recommendation:  Check the temperature of the affected Source and its FRUs. See the vendor-recommended "Chassis Clearances". Do not place the chassis next to a heat source of any kind, including heating vents. Adequate ventilation is important. Make sure that all slots and openings on the chassis remain unobstructed, especially the fan vents. Clean the installation site at regular intervals.`

Environment

Aria Operations for Networks

Cause

Aria Operations for Networks has threshold value is 40 degrees C  and cannot be altered.

Resolution

If Aria Operations for Networks reports that a data source temperature threshold has been exceeded, it is recommended that you check the temperature of the FRU to see if the data source has an anomaly.
Also, make sure that the “Chassis Clearances” recommended by the data source vendor are met.

Since the threshold for Aria Operations for Networks is fixed at 40°C, consider disabling the alert if the data source is expected to operate at temperatures above 40 degrees C.

  1. Log in to the GUI of the Aria Operations for Networks platform VM with administrative privileges.
  2. Select [Settings] from the left tree > [Alerts and Notifications].
  3. Search for “Overheating condition detected on host FRUs” in the search box under [ALERT DEFINITIONS] > [Problems].
  4. Toggle off the button in the [Enabled] column to disable the alert.

Additional Information

You can manually collect and verify CiscoNexus temperatures by running snmpwalk against OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.91.1.1.1.4.
