12.4 Cum3 Desktop Client: Unable to open connection to server

Issue/Introduction

While trying to connect to the DSeries Server from the Desktop Client it keeps returning: Unable to open connection to server

 

 

Environment

Desktop Client: 12.4 Build 1324 (Cumulative 3)

DSeries Server: 12.4 Build 1167 (GA Build)

Cause

When the Desktop Client 12.4 Cumulative 3 path is applied, it will not work with an unpatched server. This was introduced in Cumulative Path #2 and is documented in the patch as follows: 

5c) Server is un-patched and clients (DC, CLI and Web Client) are patched. Login will NOT work across the supported release. To fix this, server has to be patched.

 

Resolution

There are two options: 

1. Use an unpatched version of the Desktop Client; or
2. Patch the DSeries Server to the same patch level of the Client.
