Issue/Introduction

  • You're unable to create a new replication with error Could not compose a RT vApp for vApp replication with id 'C4VAPP-########-####-####-####-############'
  • In /opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log on the Cloud Director Availability Manager Appliance you can see entries similar to:

    2025-02-21 11:03:37.497 ERROR - [UI-########-####-####-####-############-####-##] [job-##] com.vmware.h4.cloud.service.RtVmService  : Failed to convert standalone vapp.
    com.vmware.vcloud.client.exception.VcloudException: (Major code = 400, minor code = BAD_REQUEST) - Bad request: Expression ' <Partial_VM_name>*' is not a comparison expression.
    at com.vmware.vcloud.client.VcloudClient.lambda$defaultErrorDeserializer$0(VcloudClient.java:###)

  • The source VM name contains a comma (,) character

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VCDA 4.x, currently there is no resolution.

Workaround

To workaround this issue change the name of the source VM so it doesn't contain a comma on its name.
