Failover failed with "Recovery Error" with "vmware tools timed out" state using vSphere Replication

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When the recovery plan executed to Failover and Recover the VMs, recovery fails for VM/s with Recovery error and when you expand the task status it would show as  "vmware tools timed out"

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 9.x

VMware vSphere Replication 8.7 and later.

Cause

The issue would occur when we have Guest OS filesystem is experiencing issue and the filesystem is in inconsistent state.

The Prod (source) VM may show the below errors on the Guest OS. The same state of the Guest OS filesystem is reported on the DR (replicated) VM which failed to complete the recovery and failed with vmware tools timedout error.

Resolution

The filesystem issues on Guest OS should be fixed before replicating the VMs.
