Issue/Introduction

This article outlines the step-by-step process to identify the status of a datastore using vCenter Server MOB.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Resolution

There are two parameters we can validate from the vCenter server mob to check the datastore state (accessible and maintenanceMode)

  • Login to the vCenter server mob (https://<vcenter_server_IP>/mob) on Web Browser

  • Click on content

  •  Click on group-d1 (Datacenters) in the next page

  • Locate childEntity and Click On datacenter

  • Click on datastore

  • Click on summary to view the datastore details.

  • We can see two parameters 'accessible' and 'maintenanceMode' which gives information on the current datastore state.

When value for accessible property is set to True, it indicates that the datastore is accessible

If the datastore is unmounted, the accessible flag will be set to false

Value for maintenanceMode will be set to "normal" when the host is not in maintenance mode

"inMaintenance" indicates that the host is in maintenance mode
