Issue/Introduction

Steps to create a default or plain test policy with only default configuration and/or Custom Rules.

Environment

  • App Control Console: All Supported Versions
  • App Control Agent: All Supported Versions

Resolution

Important Notes:

  • Currently there is not a way to generate a test Policy that has default product Custom Rules and/or configuration.
  • The best way to achieve this would be generating an Agent Installation Package from a Test Environment with no Custom Rules.
  • The following steps could be used to create a Policy that has no (or extremely limited) Custom Rules or Rapid Configs associated with it:

  1. Create a new Policy that will have zero Custom Rules
    1. Log in to the Console and navigate to Rules > Policies.
    2. Click Add Policy and specify relevant details, example:
      • Policy Name: Clean Policy
      • Description: Zero Custom Rules for testing purposes.
      • Mode: Control
      • Enforcement Level: (Low or Medium to prevent potential unexpected blocks)
    3. Click Save & Exit
  2. Locate Custom Rules applying to the new Policy
    1. Navigate to Rules > Software Rules > Custom
    2. Click Show Filters
      • Platform > relevant Platform (ex: Windows)
      • Policy > Contains > Clean Policy
      • Last Modified By > is not > System
    3. Click Apply
  3. Remove Custom Rules from the Clean Policy
    1. Click View Details (pencil icon)
    2. If Rule Applies To: All Current and Future Policies
      1. Choose Selected policies
      2. Check the box next to Policy to select all
      3. Uncheck the relevant Clean Policy
    3. Verify Clean Policy is not selected.
    4. Save & Exit
    5. Repeat steps for all relevant Rules
  4. Locate Rapid Configs from the Clean Policy
    1. Navigate to Rules > Software Rules > Rapid Configs
    2. Click Show Filters
      • Platform > relevant Platform (ex: Windows)
      • Policy > Contains > Clean Policy
      • Enabled > Yes
    3. Click Apply
  5. Remove Rapid Configs from the Clean Policy
    1. Click View Details (pencil icon)
    2. If Rule Applies To: All Current and Future Policies
      1. Choose Selected policies
      2. Check the box next to Policy to select all
      3. Uncheck the relevant Clean Policy
    3. Verify Clean Policy is not selected.
    4. Save & Exit
    5. Repeat steps for all relevant Rapid Configs
Note: It may be desirable to leave the Rapid Config for SCCM or Intune associated with the Clean Policy.
