Issue/Introduction

From the vCenter UI VM -> Monitor -> Performance -> Overview tab, gaps are observed on the "CPU" and "Memory" as seen below.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.x

Cause

If a VMotion happens, the stats for the VM are removed from the source host. The destination host will start collecting stats after the VMotion.

If vCenter asks for stats at this time, the previous 30 min of stats will be missing, since for the last 30 minutes, the VM was on the previous host, and the stats that had been on that host were removed after the VMotion

Resolution

  • Check for DRS configuration
    • If DRS is "enabled" and set at "Fully automated", then check to see if the vMotion task align with the gaps.
  • If no vMotion task was undertaken during the gap, please open a case with VMware.
