Issue/Introduction

While editing an Endevor element, Quickedit command COPYELM allows you to copy the contents of another element into the one being edited, in a way similar to that of the COPY command in the ISPF editor.

COPYELM may either directly copy the element, display an element selection list or display a prompter panel so that you may select the element that will be copied

How can you achieve each of these results?

Resolution

The syntax of the COPYELM command is

COPYELM [element-name [type-name]]

The element and type name are optional. A single parameter is interpreted as an element name with a blank type name.

An equal sign ("=") may be specified in place of the element name or the type name which will be replaced by the name/type of the element being edited

Possible combinations

  • Enter COPYELM without parameters to get the Copy Element prompt panel (ENDIE900). The panel will be prefilled with the environment, stage, system and subsystem of the element being edited, with the element name and type fields empty
  • Enter COPYELM with a wildcarded element or type name to get a selection list of the elements that match the specified criteria
  • Enter COPYELM with a specific element and type name to get the specified element copied into the element being edited

In the case of specific name and type note that, if the specified element is not found, COPYELM displays the prompter panel with:

  • The element name and type specified in the command
  • A message of 'element not found'
