Issue/Introduction

  • SNMP services has been configured on the NSX Managers
  • SNMP services has been configured on the edges
  • You frequently receive alerts to connect to NSX Manager or edge node to restart the service
  • When you restart the service, SNMP resumes as normal but crashes again after several hours

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center

VMware NSX

Cause

In NSX, only only node profile is supported. If the SNMP configuration is configured through CLI, it will get reset to the default settings due to the Node profile configuration on the NSX Manager. Node central config is enabled by default on all nodes.

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware NSX.

Workaround:

To prevent a node from accepting the node profile, use the CLI command set node central-config disabled on that node.

set node central-config disabled

Note:

You will also need to configure (Time Zone, NTP and SNMP) on all nodes where this "central-config" is disabled, as this will not be pushed from the NSX Managers.
