Upgrading to Symantec Protection Engine 9.x cannot be performed because the version to be upraded is prior to version 8.2.2

Issue/Introduction

An older version of Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) is installed and needs to be upgraded.  According the the upgrade requirements documentation an upgrade to SPE 9.x cannot be performed unless the version is 8.2.2 or later.

SPE 8.2.2 was removed from the product download site because it is EOS as of June, 2024

How can older versions of SPE be upgraded to version 9.x ?

Resolution

Attached to this article are the installation packages that can be used to upgrade SPE to 8.2.2. After upgrading to 8.2.2 the engine can immediately be upgraded to SPE 9.x.
