Issue/Introduction

  • You are removing a Tier-1 or Tier-0 gateway for decommissioning purposes
  • An error occurs when attempting to delete via the NSX UI:
"Error: The object <Tier-1 or Tier-0 name> cannot be deleted as either it has children or it is being referenced by other objects <object name> (Error code: 500030)"

  • The /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log file on an NSX Manager identifies which objects are referenced. Note that the log may only show the first object involved in a deletion attempt. A subsequent attempt in the UI might result in a new error referencing a different object.

Environment

VMware NSX
VMware NSX-T Data Center

Resolution

You need to remove the configuration or objects associated with the Tier-1 or Tier-0 gateway prior to removing it.
This could be segments, interfaces, load balancers, etc.
After you have done that, you will be able to remove the Tier-1 or Tier-0 successfully.
