Issue/Introduction

  • The log collection task was initiated but ended prematurely due to a service restart, with the error message: "Task cancelled due to service restart."
  • In the telemetry logs, you see errors similar to the below:

2025-01-24 02:10:27.775 ERROR - [] [aggregation-workerthread-1] c.v.p.c.api.impl.aggregation.Aggregator : There was an error during the upload and the aggregated data is not uploaded. There will be additional attempts to upload the same data. However, if the data is not uploaded within a certain timeframe and new data continues to accumulate, the old data will be discarded. If this error persists, it may indicate that the PhoneHome upload server is not functioning or there is no outbound connectivity to the PhoneHome server. Please contact the PhoneHome team for further assistance. com.vmware.ph.upload.exception.ConnectionException: Exception thrown sending streaming telemetry: Network is unreachable at com.vmware.ph.upload.rest.PhRestClientImpl.send(PhRestClientImpl.java:393) at com.vmware.ph.client.api.impl.aggregation.Aggregator$UploadRunner.doUpload(Aggregator.java:312)

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x

Cause

This issue occurs when a network-related problem prevents the VCDA system from uploading aggregated data to the PhoneHome server. The telemetry logs show an error message stating: "Network is unreachable" during the attempt to send streaming telemetry.

Resolution

  1. Check Network Configuration: Verify network settings and ensure proper connectivity to the PhoneHome server.
  2. Check Disk Space: Ensure sufficient disk space on the VCDA appliance. Remove old support bundles if necessary.
  3. Check VCDA Uptime: Confirm the uptime of the VCDA appliances. A reboot may resolve lingering connection issues.
  4. Monitor Resource Usage: Ensure the system is not experiencing high CPU or memory usage that could lead to service timeouts.

These actions will address potential network and resource-related issues causing the log bundle collection cancellation.
