Issue/Introduction

  • The VAMI backup and/or backup script fails to execute.
  • When trying to create a backup from the VAMI, the following error is seen:

    There was an error creating Backup
    Unable to create backup: A failure occurred while creating the backup on the primary

  • When running the /opt/vmware/appliance/bin/create-backup.sh script, from the SSH session to the primary cell, to generate a backup copy of the database, it fails with the following error:

    Failed to take a backup of /tmp/file.key. Check if /tmp/file.key exists.
    /opt/vmware/appliance/bin/create-backup.sh: line 137: [: -ne: unary operator expected

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6

Cause

The user.certificate.path and user.key.path point to an incorrect tmp directory in the /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/etc/global.properties and /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/responses.properties files.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the HTTP certificates must be re-imported to the Certificate Library following the documentation at Import Certificates to the Certificates Library Using Your VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Admin Portal  and into each cell in the VCD environment following the documentation at Change the Certificates of a Cell
