Issue/Introduction

VSAN snapshot appliance is deployed as a VM in vCenter, however you still see the message to deploy vSAN snapshot appliance when attempting setup.

vCenter does not install new plugin to communicate to the snapshot appliance; as plugins are only installed when needed.

  • VMware vSAN Snapshot manager UI Plugin does not appear in 'Client Plugins' (under Administration)

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0u3 or later.

Cause

The Client plugin: VMware vSAN Snapshot manager UI Plugin, does not exist.

  • Misconfigured appliance can lead to failure of registering the appliance to vCenter but the snap service plugin does not perform the install task or fails to install.

If the VM deployed, logs related to issue for the snap service appliance itself can be located under: /storage/logs/snapservice

  • Console (SSH) into the appliance to get to this log location.

* If the VM did not deploy, please log a case with Broadcom Support, to investigate why the template is failing deployment.

Resolution

Redeploy the vSAN snapshot appliance, and double check the certificates, and root trust. Before redeploying and ensuring configuration in appliance is correct.

Please see KB article, going into more details for deploying vSAN Snapshot Appliance, to assist with proper configuration of the template

For vetting certificate health, please see KB on our tool that can assist in identify certificate and SSL trust issues.
