Issue/Introduction

You would like to know if it's possible to configure the Symantec Management Agent's warning notification display timeout.  As seen in the screenshot below, the agent may successfully connect back to the SMP server, but these warnings persist for some time before going away.

Example warning messages:

"Cannot update configuration, network blockout is active"

"Network usage is currently disabled"

Scenario:

There are two yellow warnings you care about - one about policy blocked by network blockout, the second is about basic inventory blocked by blockout.

Both warnings disappear once two conditions are met:

  • blockout period is over
  • the corresponding action is performed once again

So if blockout period is over but agent has not made a policy request yet, then the yellow warning about the failed previous attempt is there. The same about basic inventory sending.

Environment

ITMS 8.7.3

Cause

Known issue. With our ITMS 8.7.1 release works just fine.

We discovered the following:

  • Basically, you select "Block network activity" check box in agent UI, select any time period and no yellow warning appears. The response should be a yellow alert telling that blockout is active. If later you cancel blockout using the same checkbox the alert should disappear. This is not happening in ITMS 8.7.3, no yellow alert appear at all.

Resolution

This issue has been fixed with our ITMS 8.8 Release.

We fixed:

  • The yellow alert should be also shown if blockout is turned on manually via SMA UI
  • Symantec Management Agent (SMA) UI notifications about network blockout do not disappear after the blockout period ends.

Workaround for those with ITMS 8.7.3:
You can restart the Symantec Management Agent service on the computer, and that will take care of the warnings right away.
