Issue/Introduction

  • Alarms similar to the below are observed on the active edge node for Tier-1 Gateway load balancer component:

/var/log/syslog

[TIMESTAMP] <edge-node-name> NSX 17954 LOAD-BALANCER [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-edge" subcomp="lb" s2comp="lb" level="WARN"] Dropped 10 log messages in last 0 seconds (most recently, 0 seconds ago) due to excessive rate

  • No Dataplane impact has been observed

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x

VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

NSX native load balancer log limit is 10 per second.  Load balancer logs will be dropped if the log message rate is higher than 10 per second.

Resolution

This is expected behaviour.

Workaround

One or more of the below steps can be taken to reduce the number of alerts being triggered for each load balancer:

  1. Disable access logs for all virtual servers
  2. Reduce the load balancer error log level
  3. Distribute virtual servers to load balancers that are utilizing different edge nodes
